The optional Fluency Test with Rigby READS is an individually administered oral reading test. The test determines how many words your student can read accurately within a one-minute period. It also provides an opportunity to observe the smoothness, inflection, and expression that characterize your student's oral reading. If a student performs poorly on the Reading Comprehension Test, it is possible that he or she is not reading fluently.
If a student performs well on the Reading Comprehension Test, it is likely that he or she is already a fluent reader. However, since fluency is so closely linked to comprehension, it is not unreasonable to test any student whom you feel is having difficulty with fluency.
