Reading proficiency for all your students.

Rigby Literacy helps struggling-to accelerated-level students in grades 4-5 develop reading proficiency through whole class - and targeted small group instruction that targets comprehension.

The program provides engaging fiction and nonfiction selections and imaginative writing strategies that reinforce grammar, usage, and mechanics.  The Bridge to Reading Comprehension component is specially designed to support below-level readers.

Whole Class Instruction

Comprehension Quarterly - Providing direct instruction in comprehension strategies and literacy skills, four high-interest Comprehension Quarterlies (CQs) are organized around engaging, interdisiplinary themes featuring fiction and nonfiction articles repesenting a variety of genres and cultures. Themes make it easy to connect with science, social studies, and other content curriculums.

Wonder Writers - Designed to help children learn the skills, strategies, and techniques of real writers. Wonder Writers features engaging lessons and activities to motivate children to write. Materials include Writing Strategy Cards, Writer's Handbook, and Teacher's Writing Resource.

Assessment/Benchmark- Rigby Literacy helps teachers make the meaningful evaluations that help students become self-monitoring, self-regulating, and independent readers and writers. In addition to a variety of multimodal and ongoing assessment tools within authentic contexts, assessment checkpoints help teachers document growth while the more formal Comprehension Quarterly test assesses comprehension, vocabulary, and literacy skills four times a year.

Small Group Instruction

Bridge to Reading Comprehension - Designed to help below-grade-level readers bridge progress toward fluent reading, Bridge to Reading Comprehension provides guided reading books that preview and reinforce the theme, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies in the Comprehension Quarterlies. These high-interest, nonfiction books are written approximately two grade levels below actual grade level and introduce various nonfiction features on topics connected to science, social studies, and other content curriculum.
